LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WIVB) — After the sudden resignation of Niagara County District Attorney Michael Violante, 70, News 4 found out a Deputy District Attorney will take over his duties.
Deputy DA Theodore Brenner will not be known as Niagara County’s Acting District Attorney, but will simply take over Violante’s workload.
Violante turned in his letter of resignation on Monday, but details as to why he did so are not known. In 2008, Violante created a list of successors to take his place in an event of sickness of resignation.
Violante, a Republican, left in the middle of his term. His replacement will be chosen in November and Niagara County Democratic Party Chairman Nick Forster says a “search is underway as we speak.”
Governor Andrew Cuomo is expected to name an interim District Attorney.
