Man admits to September Buffalo barber shop killing

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo man has admitted in court to killing another man inside a Niagara Street barber shop.

Authorities charged Luis Olivera-Arvelo, 25, with manslaughter after he shot Juan Santiago, 29, to death in September.

Minutes before the shooting, prosecutors say Santiago allegedly threatened Olivera-Arvelo with a machete. The shooting appears to have been a retaliatory move, according to prosecutors.

When sentenced in May, Olivera-Arvelo could face a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
