Substitute teacher arrested for offering alcohol to students at prom

BLUFFTON, S.C. – A South Carolina substitute teacher turned herself into Bluffton Police after allegedly offering students alcohol at prom.

Police say it happened Saturday April 2 at the Bluffton High School prom on Hilton Head Island.  A school resource officer was told 50-year-old Tracy Butts offered two students alcohol and they refused to take it.

Butts denied the allegations when she was confronted but did admit to having alcohol in her purse and drinking it while at prom.

Police received written statements from the students who claimed they were offered the alcohol and from students who heard the offer.  The statements lead to an arrested warrant being issued.

Butts is charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
