Local Veterans honored for National POW/MIA Day

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — On Saturday the nation remembered those who were captured during times of war.

Saturday was National Prisoner of War Day.

The Western New York VA on Bailey Avenue held a ceremony Saturday afternoon honoring prisoners of war and soldiers missing in action.

Those honored at the ceremony say it is not only a day to remember prisoners of war, but those who were also lost on the front lines.

Six local veterans were honored in Saturday’s ceremony.

Five were prisoners of war during World War II and one was a prisoner of war during the conflict in Vietnam.
