BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — All of New York State is under a high level fire danger warning due to dry areas likely to spread brush fires.

Officials say residential brush burning will be prohibited through May 14 as part of the warning, as open flames of debris are the largest cause of wildfires in the spring.

Dry leaves and dead branches on the ground are working against New York State in the fight to prevent the spread of brush and wildfire.

On Sunday, firefighters in Frewsburg were dispatched to a wooded area where a brush fire spread, burning about five acres, according to witnesses.

Fire crews rushed to Dye Road to wet down the grass and stop the spread of fire there.
