Cheektowaga Police Officers Volunteer at Resurrection Life Food Pantry

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) — More than a dozen police officers lent a helping hand today in Cheektowaga. They volunteered at the Resurrection Life Food pantry.

Hundreds of people lined up for the pantry’s food express truck and police helped hand out and bag the food. The resurrection life food pantry hosts a food express truck that is provided through the Food Bank of WNY.

On the third Tuesday of each month, people line up to get a variety of grocery products like fresh produce and dairy products that aren’t available as often in the resurrection life food pantry.

“We want give back to the community the community has been very good to us. We’re more than just officers out there writing tickets, we have a human side to us,” said Lieutenant Brian Coons of the Cheektowaga Police Department.

“So often we can be the hands and the feet to our process but they’re often times our eyes and ears out on the streets to show us those greatest pockets of need,” said Greg Glovins, Resurrection Life Church Administrator.

Today the food express truck served about 200 families from Cheektowaga, West Seneca and Depew.

The next hand out will take place on may 17th.
