BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A rash of recent car larcenies is prompting officials in Erie County to urge drivers to lock their cars.
As the cold season departs, police say thieves are out and about and are working to steal valuables from easy targets. Those targets are typically cars during the night, according to Town of Hamburg Police.
Officials say car larcenies have been rampant of late, but the criminals aren’t acting violently or destructively. They’re entering cars simply by pulling on door handles.
Police say the thieves leave cars alone if doors are locked, so they’re urging all local drivers to keep doors locked at all times.
Extra patrols have been dispatched, but no arrests have been made this spring for that crime.
