DEPEW, N.Y. (WIVB) — A woman who admitted to speeding over a double yellow line on French Road in Depew, killing 72-year-old Carol Dion, was sentenced to 18 months to four years in jail in court Thursday morning.
Sarah Skotnicki, 26, of Depew, pleaded guilty to felony criminally negligent homicide in March after the September incident.
Before the crash, investigators say Skotnicki had been “huffing” a stolen bottle of Endust from a Walden Avenue Target, leading her to become high from the chemicals.
While driving down the road’s 30 mile-per-hour zone at approximately 72 miles per hour, Skotnicki collided with Dion’s car, killing Dion and injuring her 23-year-old granddaughter, a passenger.
During sentencing, Skotnicki could not face more charges due to Endust not being classified as a narcotic in New York.
