Officials: Batavia man found in August died from drowning

BATAVIA, N.Y. (WIVB) — A man who was said to be missing, but was later found dead in Batavia now has an official cause of death.

Batavia Police say Troy Hickman, 49, was found dead in the Tonawanda Creek at Kibbe Park back in August. His body had been laying in the water for quite a bit of time.

More than half a year later, medical examiners officially labeled Hickman’s cause of death as drowning.

Although that is what actually killed the Batavia man, police say alcohol was a major contributing factor in his death. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
