NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) — After an hour-long standoff with cops in Niagara Falls, a 44-year-old local is behind bars and is facing charges for raping a 13-year-old.
Niagara Falls police say they arrested Robert Pavlisin Jr. on Friday after a concerned relative contacted police when they located inappropriate material on the phone of a 13-year-old. Police say they investigated and learned about a sexual relationship between Pavlisin and the teen, which began in December of 2015.
Police searched the home of the 44-year-old’s parents, where he lives in the basement, but they didn’t locate him. Officers say he began to flee after learning of the raid, and attempted to fool police by texting his family and lying about his location.
While on patrol, police say they located his vehicle outside a business on New Road in Niagara Falls, where they learned Pavlisin began hiding out inside a storage building.
As police began to surround the storage building, police say they spoke on the phone with Pavlisin to attempt him to come out, but began standoff protocols when Pavlisin allegedly stuck a gun through a crack in plywood he hid behind.
Over an hour passed before police coaxed Pavlisin to come out of the building and drop the gun. Officers later learned the gun was only a pellet gun which appeared similar to a real pistol. Pavlisin purchased the gun just 20 minutes earlier on Friday.
Now in custody, Pavlisin faces a host of charges, including second-degree rape. Officers say they believe more charges will follow in the case, and officers say they continue to pore through information — including seized cell phones and electronics.
Officers say they are concerned there may be other victims in the case, and they’re asking anybody with information to step forward and help protect and aid victims. Anybody with information is asked to call police at (716) 286-4711.
