Overnight confrontation in Fredonia ends with shooting

FREDONIA, N.Y. (WIVB) — A man is being treated at Erie County Medical Center after an early morning confrontation at a home ended with the man being shot.

Someone called 911 from a home on Liberty Street at 2:22 a.m. Saturday. Police say a person living there told them a male and female woke him up by pounding on a door inside his enclosed front porch.

The homeowner went to the door with a legally owned handgun, police said, and when he opened the door, the man and woman pushed their way in.

After the homeowner showed the weapon and the people spoke with each other, the man and woman left the house, police said.

The homeowner went out to get information about the visitors’ vehicle; the driver stopped, walked back to the homeowner and threatened him, according to police; that’s when the homeowner fired several shots and the man was shot.

Fredonia Village Police officers stopped the visitors’ vehicle after it drove away; that’s where police say he first received medical treatment, and was brought to ECMC via Starflight.

Police ask anyone with additional information about the incident to call them at (716) 679-1531.
