BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The UB football team wrapped up their spring practice slate on Saturday afternoon with the annual Blue and White Scrimmage at the UB Stadium.
The quarterback battle took center stage as Head Coach Lance Leipold has yet to name a starter for the upcoming season.
Iowa State graduate transfer Grant Rohach had the most successful day with the offense, finishing 13-for-17 passing for 118 yards and four touchdowns.
He will likely be competing for the Bulls starting job with sophomore Chris Merchant and redshirt-freshman Tyree Jackson. Merchant completed 7 of 10 passes, good for 132 yards and a touchdown. Jackson went 6-for-9, 53 yards passing and two touchdowns.
Leiopold said the scrimmage concluded a very successful spring practice session for the Bulls.
“I am very pleased with how today went, we vanilla’d the defense a bit and we were able to work on red zone things.” The second-year head coach said. “We asked the officials to call the game how they would call it in the regular season and I thought it was clean. We didn’t have any holding calls on the offensive line, motion penalties, things like that. This is as close to as we are going to get to a game-like atmosphere so I was pleased.”
