Funeral arrangements announced for young girl killed by Humber Ave. fire

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Just days after it was announced that Treasure Brighon, the 8-year-old who was rescued from a fatal February Buffalo fire, died, funeral arrangements have been made for her.

Treasure’s father Demetrius Johnson, Sr., 24, was killed while rescuing his three children from the blaze. Treasure fought for survival over a course of two months while receiving treatment in New York and Ohio, but succumbed to her injuries late Sunday night. 90 percent of her body had been burned.

The fire’s cause was electrical in nature, being blamed on malfunctioning wires in the home’s kitchen.

Treasure will be laid to rest at True Bethel Baptist Church on E. Ferry Street at 10 a.m. Monday, May 2. The ceremony will be open to the public.

Anyone wishing to donate for the cost of the funeral can made a deposit at any First Niagara Bank in the name of Tempest Thomas, c/o “Treasure Brighon.” provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
