State Police use social media to make reckless driving arrest

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Busted via Instagram? That’s how Connecticut State Police arrested a New Haven man on reckless driving and a host of other charges.

Troopers launched an investigation in November of 2015 into illegal and reckless driving on New Haven streets byATV riders. They discovered an Instagram account “Reckless_203” which contained a number of videos showcasing the operation of motorcycles, four-wheelers, and dirt bikes.

Using landmarks, Troopers were able to identify several locations where violations occurred from Bridgeport to East Haven, on I-95 and I-91.

State Police identified the owner of that Instagram account as 21-year-old Gabriel Canestri Jr. of New Haven. He was taken into custody Thursday.

Canestri faces 15 counts of reckless endangerment, 23 counts of reckless driving, 24 counts of operation a motorcycle without face protection, and one count of misuse of registration plate. His bond, originally set at $50,000 has been lowered to $15,000. He is due back in court on May 9. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
