VIDEO: New Mexico DWI suspect crashes into police cars

RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) – Police lapel video shows a close call for a pair of officers in New Mexico.

After officers cleared one drunk driving suspect, their next came barreling towards them.

A driver smashed into two Rio Rancho Police cars at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday on Unser Boulevard near Southern.

Body camera video released by Rio Rancho Police shows the officers run before the impact of the collision actually pushed one of the police cars up onto the curb where they had just been standing.

The driver was injured, but the officers didn’t get hurt after running to safety just in time.

Police arrested the man for driving drunk.

The crash totaled one police car and severely damaged the other, but police point out that it could have been much worse and say it’s just another reminder of the danger of driving drunk. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
