Ex-nurse won’t face jail time for stealing pain meds intended for patients

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A former local nurse who worked at Sister’s Hospital will not face jail time for injecting pain medications intended for patients then replacing the vile with saline solution.

U.S. District Judge Elizabeth Wolford sentenced Tuesday 54-year-old Leyla Samadi to five years of probation. She was convicted of stealing pain medication as a registered nurse by logging onto a dispensing machine and ordering a narcotic, only to inject it herself.

She avoided detection for a time by returning the vials to the machine after filling them with saline solutions and claiming she selected the wrong patient.

The former nurse also faced charges in the past over forging CVS Pharmacy prescriptions.
