Erie Co. Sheriff’s Office to offer child ID cards, car seat inspections

GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. (WIVB) — This weekend in western New York, the Erie County Sheriff’s Office will be providing ways to protect the safety of local children.

From 9 a.m. until Noon on Saturday, May 7, technicians from the Erie County’s Sheriff’s Office will offer car seat inspections to the community.

Officials will make sure the seats are clear of structural defects and have proper installation. The technicians will also offer car seat installation instructions to those interested in them.

Along with the car seat inspections, the Sheriff’s Office will also be offering free Operation Safe Child ID cards to children.

The cards contain information such as the child’s name, age and physical description.

ID cards can assist officials in finding children if they ever go missing due to the information being saved in a state database.

The car seat inspections and ID card offers will take place at the Grand Island Town Hall. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
