ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York state officials are urging people to get out this weekend and participate in the fifth annual “I Love My Park Day.”

Saturday’s event is aimed at getting New Yorkers to visit parks across the state to help plant trees and gardens, restore trails, pick up trash and make other improvements.

Organizers say more than 100 parks and historic sites are taking part in I Love My Park Day activities. This year, the event has been expanded to public lands in the Adirondacks and Catskills managed by the state Department of Environmental Conservation, as well as several National Park Service sites in celebration of the federal agency’s centennial.

I Love My Parks Day is sponsored jointly by the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and Parks & Trails New York, an Albany-based parks advocacy group.
