Early morning arson lights up Northampton St. house

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Northampton St. house will have to be demolished as a result of an early morning arson.

Firefighters arrived at the scene sometime before 3 a.m. thinking there were people in what turned out to be a vacant house, but no one was found.

Tense moments were laden throughout the firefighters’ battle with the flames.

“We don’t like to put anyone in unnecessary danger,” Division Chief Peter Kertzie said. “The problem here was most of the fire was in the front part of the house. We couldn’t tell if it was vacant or not, so we did a quick search. It’s a little harrowing while they’re in there.”

Luckily, no one was hurt during the incident.

It did not take long for firefighters to realize the house was intentionally lit on fire.

Overall, the blaze did $40,000 in damage to the structure.
