Elderly man holds suspected burglars at gunpoint

CAMPOBELLO, SC (WSPA) – Two teenagers are behind bars after deputies say they broke into a garage in Campobello, and an elderly man held them at gunpoint.

Artur Lavrenyuk, 18, is charged with burglary second degree and possession of a weapon during a violent crime by the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office.

A 14-year-old was also arrested and taken to the Greenville Juvenile Detention Center Facility.

Mack Lewis, 81, lives in the house and says he went to the garage armed with a shotgun his wife heard the alarm go off around 4 a.m.

When he got to the garage, Lewis says he saw the teens standing at a wall, and he told them to lay on the ground.

When deputies got to the house, they searched Lavrenyuk, and found a 9 mm pistol and a pocketknife.

Lavrenyuk has a bond hearing Wednesday at 9 p.m.
