Local man accused of illegally collecting over $40k in benefits

LYNDONVILLE, N.Y. (WIVB) — An investigation into the abuse of the welfare system led police in Orleans County to arrest 37-year-old Craig Groves.

Groves is accused of stealing a total of $41,000 between 2012 and 2016 from falsely filing medicaid financial applications and receiving medicaid benefits.

The investigation led police to charge Groves with third-degree welfare fraud and second-degree forgery.

Further charges are pending, police say, as an investigation into Groves’ conduct is ongoing. Meanwhile, he’s been arraigned and a judge released him on a promise to appear in court.
