Mercy Flight wins permanent authority to operate in Concord, Springville

CONCORD, N.Y. (WIVB) — Two municipalities will be serviced henceforth by a non-profit emergency medical service in Mercy Flight Inc.

Mercy Flight Inc., which operates ambulance service Mercy EMS, has been working to win the authority to permanently operate in the Town of Concord and Village of Springville, and their mission has finally been realized.

Officials say a vote by the New York State Emergency Medical Services Council (NYSEMSC) secured the permanent operating authority status for Mercy Flight after the group had been asked by the towns to replace Rural/Metro, a well-known EMS service that has authority in Buffalo and more.

Boards from both Springville and Concord requested Mercy Flight, however a regional board denied the emergency request. The unanimous Wednesday vote by the NYSEMSC overturned the regional denial, and will allow Mercy Flight to service the towns.

Mercy Flight officials say they are celebrating the decision, and are thanking local fire department chiefs and village officials who vouched for the the service.
