BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Americans across the country are celebrating with confectionery treats Friday on National Doughnut Day.
Dunkin’ Donuts is offering a special deal for customers. They’re giving them one free classic doughnut each if they purchase a drink.
Dunkin’ is doing this all day long at restaurants across the country. Tim Hortons is also joining in the fun by offering coupons for sets of half-dozen doughnuts. Customers with a coupon can buy a half-dozen doughnuts for $2.99 through July 3.
Locally, Paula’s Donuts and Frankies Donuts and Pizza in Niagara Falls are doing the same thing with their treats. DiCamillo Bakery, which is also in Niagara Falls, is offering a free doughnut to any customers who buy a dozen.
The Chicago Salvation Army started National Doughnut Day in 1938 in an effort to honor women who gave doughnuts to soldiers involved in World War II. The holiday is celebrated every first Friday of June.
