Fire burns building, victim and dog in Black Rock

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Firefighters rushed to a Black Rock neighborhood on Tuesday as a small home on Kail Street caught flame.

Officials say one person suffered burn injuries during the afternoon blaze and had to be rushed to the Erie County Medical Center. First responders called for an ambulance, but say it took too long for a response.

Recordings from transmissions on fire channels reveal the fire crews stopped a nearby Twin City Ambulance to transport the victim.

“We had to commandeer a Twin City Ambulance, the other ambulance was too far out,” a first responder said.

Also injured in the fire was a family dog from the home, which firefighters say they had to revive with a breathing device.

The dog is expected to be fine. The burn victim is recovering in the hospital.
