Employees put out fire in Cheektowaga factory

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) — Four workers came together to douse a fire that started at a Cheektowaga sheet metal facility.

The Wednesday morning fire began when something went wrong with what Cheektowaga Police referred to as a “laser machine.” Aluminum and carbon caught fire, creating a hazmat situation.

Police briefly closed off Cayuga Rd. from Maryvale Dr. to Cleveland Dr. as fire crews rushed to the scene.

Although, when crews arrived, the fire was already out.

Cheektowaga Police Assistant Chief James Speyer said no one was injured.
