STAFFORD, N.Y. (WIVB) — Law enforcement officials in Genesee County began a search for someone they were told ran away from a car crash, but their search came up empty Friday morning.

A man and a woman were hospitalized in Rochester after a car struck a tree on Fargo Rd. in the town of Stafford. The crash happened just before 2:30 a.m.

The man in the vehicle was unresponsive upon the arrival of emergency personnel. The woman was seen on a nearby porch. It was not clear initially whether she was involved in the crash or not, as she told authorities that an unknown driver got out of the vehicle and ran north on Fargo Rd.

Later, the woman admitted to Genesee County Sheriff’s deputies that she and the hospitalized man were the only occupants of the vehicle.

Deputies say charges in the matter are pending.
