Fill the Backpack collects more than 48,000 pounds of food in days

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — It has only been days, but Fill the Backpack has already collected 48,280 pounds of food as of Friday morning.

The program, which combines the efforts of News 4, Wegmans and the Food Bank of Western New York, seeks to send less-fortunate children home with food on Fridays after school. The program makes sure children and their families in Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie and Niagara counties have food to eat over the weekend.
