CAMBRIDGE, England (WIVB) — New research from England offers an easy solution to get you to drink less wine — get a smaller glass.

Specifically, researchers recommended one smaller than 12 ounces. Larger goblets tend to make you drink faster and order more.

A research team from the University of Cambridge tracked what wine customers drank over 16 weeks in a restaurant or a bar.

Every two weeks, the bartenders changed the size of wine glasses. They alternated between the standard ten ounce glasses, smaller eight ounce glasses and larger 12 ounce goblets.

The restaurant sold nine percent more wine on a given day when they were using the large glasses.

Smaller glasses could help at home too in the same way smaller plates are recommended for people trying to eat less.
