CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) — “I thought it was raining and when I looked in my backroom I saw nothing but orange. I went out in my family room and I looked outside and I saw the whole house was just inflamed.”

People living at the Carefree Park Estates in Cheektowaga are shaken up after a home went up in flames.

The fire started around 3:30 a.m. Saturday on Union Road. The home was completely destroyed in the fire.

The park manager on the scene says two children and two adults safely escaped from the home, and other homes were also damaged in the blaze.

“It was scary. It was a very scary situation for everybody actually because my neighbor his house got melted and people next door they lost their house and people next door got a little melting,” Park Manager and neighbor, Mark Wehrfrit said.

“We’re all safe. Everyone’s safe and that’s the most important thing.”

Bellevue Fire Department responded to the fire.

The two children and two adults were treated for smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
