Man dies after falling from hot air ballon in Livingston County

NUNDA, N.Y. (WIVB)- State Police are investigating a fatal hot air balloon accident that occurred in the Town of Nunda Friday night around 9 p.m.

34 year-old hot air balloon handler, Ryan Almeter, was restraining the basket allowing passengers to get off, when wind caused the balloon to take flight.

The balloon reached approximately 100 feet when Almeter let go of the basket and fell to his death.

News 4 reached out to Balloons over Letchworth Saturday afternoon. The business voicemail message states “unfortunately we have tragically lost one of our balloon family and our office is closed for the weekend.”

The FAA and the NTSB were contacted by State Police and the investigation is continuing.
