BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — An elderly woman is recovering following a large chain crash that is under investigation now.
Officers say the 82-year-old woman began the chain of crashes at 10 a.m., backing into a car on East Delavan. Accident Investigation Unit Lieutenant Thomas Leatherbarrow said she then continued on, hitting two other vehicles after entering Route 33 eastbound.
When the elderly woman exited onto Grider Street, police say she took her Ford 150 into a fire hydrant, then a sign — which flew into the windshield of a parked car.
As her truck continued forward, police say the truck shot into the air, striking a tree and another parked car before flipping over and ending the chain crash on Pembroke Avenue.
First responders rushed the woman to the Erie County Medical Center where she is in stable condition.
No charges have been filed yet, but investigation is pending now.
