Following search, bodies of both missing boys located in Letchworth State Park

CASTILE, N.Y. (WIVB) — The somber search is over for two brothers who were carried by current over Letchworth State Park’s lower falls over the weekend with the rest of their seven-person group.

New York State Police have been on the hunt with park authorities for the bodies of the two boys after the family fell into the Genesee River while in unauthorized parts of the park. Current carried the family over the waterfall, causing injuries to several family members who were rescued on Saturday after the plunge at 7 p.m.

On Sunday afternoon, searchers located the body of Preston Giangregorio, 6, but had to continue their search for his brother. Underwater recovery team officials from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police located 9-year-old Dylan Giangregorio’s body on Tuesday afternoon.

While law enforcement say the incident is under investigation, New York State Police did issue their thoughts and sympathies to the friends of the Giangregorio family.

Letchworth State Park officials have asked park goers in the face of the tragedy to remain on marked trails and avoid unauthorized areas. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
