Nurse aid charged with slapping nursing home resident

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo woman faces serious charges of slapping an elderly nursing home patient, the New York Attorney General’s Office announced on Tuesday.

Officials announced the arrest of Angelene Burton, 53, on Tuesday. Burton allegedly slapped an 88-year-old Highpointe on Michigan Health Care Facility patient on both the head and face.

The resident, described as an Alzheimer’s patient, suffers from acute kidney failure. The assault is a violation that would lead to time in prison and her certification being revoked if found to be true.

Witnesses reported the assault to officials, leading to charges from New York’s top prosecutor.

Burton faces charges of second-degree endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person, willful violation of health laws and second-degree harassment.

Burton will return to court at a later date to answer charges. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
