Man who fired fatal shots at Towne Gardens pleads guilty

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Months after police took a Buffalo man into custody on charges of murder, he’s agreed to a plea deal with prosecutors.

Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael Flaherty announced 39-year-old Demario Washington pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter for shooting and killing 55-year-old Elroy Damidaux.

Washington originally faced second-degree murder charges when police arrested him just after the January shooting at 1 Curry Walk.

When Washington is sentenced, he faces a maximum of 25 years behind bars. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
