BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – William Nylander plays in Toronto and his is dad a longtime NHL veteran. Now, another Nylander is in the fold — younger brother, Alexander. For all the hype William has earned as the Leafs top prospect, Alexander more than lives up to the family name.
“I think I’m a playmaker who has got good vision, good speed, good shot,” Alexander said at the NHL Combine.
The 2016 OHL Rookie of the Year, Nylander put up 75 points in 57 games playing on the wing. Displaying his trademark family speed but, also plenty of smarts. His hockey IQ resembles that of current Sabre Sam Reinhart who is one of many young Buffalo forwards Alex might soon join.
“They’re great players, I’ve seen them play a little bit this year. I think I would be a good linemate to any of those guys on the team.”
Plus, what’s the harm in perhaps infusing a Leafs-Sabres rivalry with two Nylander brothers on opposite sides?
Whatever the reason, if Buffalo pulls the trigger, Alexander could make an impact quickly.
“Yeah it would be great to get selected to be Buffalo, you never know what can happen in the draft. Just be happy to get drafted whoever I get selected by. But, yeah, they got a great team, it’d be really good to get drafted by them.”
