BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Allentown residents are speaking out about a string of thefts that have occurred in their neighborhood.
Many say it’s a great place to live, but they’re fed up with thieves stealing their belongings.
One family even took steps to secure their front yard by installing security cameras, zip-tying hanging baskets and padlocking hanging lanterns.
The family said they were waiting on a package to be delivered for a Father’s Day gift. It arrived Wednesday afternoon, but seconds later a man stole it right off their porch in broad daylight.
Their surveillance video shows a man walking up the steps to the house and he first checks in the front door window if anyone is inside. He then picks up the box, that has a bicycle in it, and takes it right off the porch, walking off with it.
The homeowner said her neighbors saw him walking down the street with it, but they weren’t sure if it was his or if it was stolen.
Neighbors told News 4 they want something to be done and adding a police presence could be the solution
“You got a constant presence of issues and no real presence of authority and deterrent and that’s where I think we are lacking,” said Kevin Morrison, neighbor.
Councilman David Franczyk said the issue of theft is an issue he’s willing to address.
“These are the challenges of city living and it’s a terrible thing and nobody should have to put up with it, but whatever resources the police ask for whether it’s support for more cameras or equipment, the council is certainly there to vote to give them that,” said Councilman Franczyk.
The family that had their Father’s Day present stolen told News 4 it has since been returned.
