NF man charged with election law violations

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) — A local community activist is facing charges of voting in an election he had no right in which to cast a ballot.

Officials say Rus Thompson, 60, faced arraignment on Thursday after the Erie County Board of Elections noticed he filed to vote in three elections he had no right to vote in, as he had moved off of Grand Island.

Thompson allegedly moved to Niagara Falls, but continued to vote in Grand Island via affidavit ballots for a year.

Thompson faces charges of false registration in violation of the election law, first-degree offering a false instrument for filing in violation of the Penal Law and three counts of illegal voting in violation of the Election Law. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
