FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (WIVB) — Martellus Bennett has a lot more on his resume than the record for most NFL catches in 2015.

His latest endeavor will be up for sale this weekend. It’s a children’s book, and it features a protagonist Bennett says is rare for children’s stories — someone who is black.

The book is called “Hey A.J., it’s Saturday!” and the character is based on his daughter, also A.J.

She’s the reason he realized how few books feature black protagonists, and the reason he decided to write his own.

Bennett says the books that do feature black protagonists are focused on race.

“I want my daughter [and] other kids of color to grow up with a character of color that focuses on imagination and adventures; not just their skin color or hair.”

Bennett also created a children’s app called “Hey A.J.” Your kids can help her get through different problems and obstacles she comes across.

Coming Soon

The book is $15 and is available on his website.
