Local business celebrates 500th tour bus visit; wants you to shop American- made products

ELMA, N.Y. (WIVB) –  Western New York’s “Made In America” store sells only products made by U.S. manufacturers. In the six years its been open, it’s become a destination for tourists around the world.

The original Made in America Store celebrated its 6th anniversary on April 3, 2016.  On May 21, 2016, Mark Andol and his family hosted a community celebration marking the ribbon cutting and grand opening of the new flagship store and world class destination.

Andol said, ” This represents America and working with your hands and manufacturing, and we need jobs.” The 500th tour bus visited the store Saturday.

It’s filled with people who want to check out the more than seven thousand products there. All of it is crafted on U.S. soil.

Andol said, “People like to see what Americans are making, and American pride. Lately we’re getting so much respect for respecting America.”

One of those people: 85-year-old is Lula Winningham. She came to visit all the way from Jamestown, Tennessee. She said, “about everything we can get back there is made in China.”

The store has become a tourist destination with 80 percent of these buses coming from out of state. Winningham said, “I wanted to see what it was like. They might have something different then what we have.”

Made in America is a family- run business that started out of Andol’s garage. He said every product has to be authentically American, and certified three times over.

He said, “Every check I write stays in this country and that’s beautiful. If you want to fix your potholes, buy made in America.”

Those “potholes” he’s talking about date back about 30 years to when cost cutting measures put a damper on job creation here in the U.S.

Dorothy Furtney organizes the tour buses. She said, “We’ve outsourced all of our good paying, middle class jobs and we end up with having this huge unemployment problem in the country.”

Andol says he now encourages people to take a look at what you’re buying and where you’re buying it from.

Made in America Store can be found at 1000 W. Maple Court in Elma, New York.
