Fill the Backpack wraps up, racks up nearly 150,000 pounds of food donations

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The charity event fostered by the partnership between Wegmans and the Food Bank of Western New York wrapped up on Monday, with record numbers of charitable donations.

Dubbed Fill The Backpack, both organizations have worked to secure food donations to children in local school districts suffering from hunger during the school year.

Throughout the program, Wegmans has allowed charitable people to purchase bags of pre-packaged food items. Those donations have racked up to a total of 150,750 pounds of food.

Officials with Wegmans say the total topped last year’s program by over 20,000 pounds of food.
