Sabres acquire rights to winger Vesey

Buffalo gives up third round pick to Nashville, has until August 15th to sign Vesey.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – Days away from the NHL draft, the Buffalo Sabres have traded their third round pick to Nashville for the rights to Jimmy Vesey.

Vesey, the 2016 Hobey Baker Award winner, was drafted by the Predators in 2012 and then opted to play for Harvard. This past season, Vesey led the Crimson with 46 points in 33 games.

Vesey informed the Predators in March that he would not be signing with them, opting to explore free agency.

The North Reading, Massachusetts native is good friends with Sabres star Jack Eichel. The two played together for team USA and work out in the Boston area.

Buffalo now has an exclusive negotiating window with Vesey until August 15th. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
