BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — We are just one day away from the NHL draft in Buffalo, and thousands of visitors are making their way to the Queen City.
Cindy Sweiger and Donna Lembke have been staying at the Buffalo Marriott HARBORCENTER Hotel and exploring the city since Monday.
“It’s fun, the concert yesterday and all the people,” said Sweiger, from Minnesota.
“Great weather we’ve been walking and walking and seeing so many wonderful sites,” said Lembke from Missouri.
Some visitors have been to the Queen City before, but say now it feels like a brand new place.
“My first time was during the World Junior Championship in 2011 and then again for the All American Prospects games throughout the year that Buffalo has hosted. It’s definirley grown since my first visit here there really wasn’t anything downtown to do or to entertain yourself with and it’s much much different now,” said Julie Robenhymer, from New Jersey.
“My first NHL draft was in Philadelphia so I’m looking forward to seeing how Buffalo hosts it differently I know there’s a fan fest tomorrow at Canalside and we’re going to go over there and see what that’s about,” said Alexa Ekeler, from Pennsylvania.
Thousands of visitors are in the area for the NHL draft but many will get a taste of what Buffalo is all about in the process, checking out local attractions like Canalside and dining at restaurants.
“We had lunch at the Pearl Street Grill the other day, beautiful patio, great service it was wonderful,” said Sweiger.
“There’s definitely an energy there’s just a lot more people around and more things to do, right now we’re headed out to lunch and excited to explore more,” said Robenhymer.
The NHL draft kicks off at 7 pm Friday at First Niagara Center.
