Buffalo man sentenced for killing friend during birthday celebration

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — An argument between friends turned fatal when Michael Greer, 44, shot and killed Michael Atkins, 33, this past Fall.

Greer and Atkins were celebrating Greer’s birthday at his home in September when the two began to argue. Around 10:30 p.m., Greer pulled a gun on Atkins, ending his life.

The Orange St. man pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in April.

Greer, who also goes by “Peanut,” was sentenced to 18 years in jail, followed by five years of post-release supervision.
