FORT ERIE, ONTARIO (WIVB) — A 64-year-old man is recovering at ECMC this morning after being trampled by a horse at Fort Erie Racetrack.

According to Niagara Regional Police, the horse broke free from it’s rider around 5 p.m. Sunday night, then ran down the track.

Officials say the horse then ran down the track, jumped over a fence, and ran over the horse trainer.

Right now, the trainer is listed in stable but critical condition at ECMC.

The Ontario Ministry of Labor has launched an investigation.
