BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The man who killed Christopher Pratt, 24, in December of 2014 will spend 25 years to life behind bars.
After seeing Pratt on the street, Antone Herrod, 32, “pulled out a long gun” from the trunk of his vehicle and fatally shot him in the back.
Herrod’s girlfriend was with him at the time, and claimed that Pratt shot her mother in 2012, paralyzing her legs.
At the time of the shooting, Pratt was out of jail awaiting sentencing for a shooting that blinded a father of five.
Herrod thought that Pratt was walking to his car to get a gun, leading him to shoot Pratt in an act of what he described as self-defense.
Despite this, a weapon was never found in Pratt’s vehicle.
Herrod’s sentencing of 25 years to life is the maximum sentence he could have received.
