ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) — Deadspin has an award this year specifically for the loyal football fans who spend much of Fall and Winter traveling to the Ralph to cheer on their favorite team. Yes, they seek to award the best Bills fan.
Buffalo Bills fans have a bit of a rowdy reputation due to certain antics that have been captured on video, especially this past season. Those viral videos have ended up on a sports website called Deadspin, where publishers there seek to award the best fan for their actions either at, before or after games.
Earlier this year, Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz called Bills fans’ behavior at games “embarrassing,” going on to say “it makes the community look bad.”
In January, a video appeared online that showed a fan jumping on a burning table, subsequently catching his pants on fire.
In addition to this, Bills fans have been seen having sex in public, performing dangerous pro-wrestling moves on each other before games, and partaking in other foolish activities.
Poloncarz spoke to News 4 in January, saying ““We want our community to cheer for the Bills, which means it would be nice if you could take a ten year old to a football game, but I’m not so certain I’d want to take a ten year old when you’ve got all this stuff going on outside the stadium.”
Deadspin has obviously taken notice of Bills fans’ wild shenanigans and nominated a select group of people who ended up in the viral videos.
The nominations (with videos) for “Best Bills Fan” can be found here. Deadspin lists them as the following:
- Bills Fan Who Set Himself On Fire
- Bills Fans Who Was Bad At Dizzy Bat
- Bills Fan Powerbomb Ceremony
- Bills Fan Who Barfed And Rallied
- Bills Fans Who Had A Slap Fight
A poll is up on their website, allowing voters to choose who they think is the “Best Bills Fan.” The voting deadline is July 8 at midnight.
