Legislature approves new $1.5 million security plan for Rath Building

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Security concerns at the Rath Building are being addressed with a new $1.5 million plan for additions and reconstruction.

On Thursday, the Erie County Legislature approved a measure to install metal detectors and add additional armed Sheriff’s deputies at 95 Franklin St.

“This plan increases the number of guards and deputies who are charged with protecting those inside the Rath Building,” Legislator Edward A. Rath, III, Chairman of the Public Safety Committee said. “While those already on duty do a good job handling the day-to-day challenges, this resolution addresses some concerns and provides additional support.  The addition of metal detectors will also provide an extra layer of protection for not only employees but visitors to the building.”

The plan will allow for funding to redesign and reconstruct building entrances.
