BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – A packed house was on hand at RiverWorks on Saturday night for the 20th anniversary celebration of “Legends of the Aud.”
On June 7th 1996, the final sporting event was held at the Buffalo Memorial Auditorium. It was a night of wrestling which featured some of the biggest names in the sport along with local celebrities like Jim Kelly. The night raised thousands of dollars for the Children’s Hospital.
And, on Saturday they did it all over again. Even Dick “The Destroyer” Beyer climbed into the ring at 86 years old.
The night brought back memories of the marquee event 20 years ago, while making new ones at RiverWorks.
“It was so fantastic and electrifying and that is how it feels tonight,” Brian Knobs of the Nasty Boys said. “It feels the same way. 20 years later and it went by like that. It is unbelievable and we (The Nasty Boys) really love Buffalo.”
The event, which also raised money for the Ilio DiPaolo Scholarship Fund, was certainly special to the family of the Buffalo wresting legend.
“Everybody came together and said lets do a great show lets do a great thing,” Ilio’s son Dennis said. “It is truly gratifying how our community came together and I can’t thank everyone enough.”
