Thousands briefly powerless as traffic lights go out in Cheektowaga, Sloan

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) — Thursday afternoon, more than 4,800 people were without power in Cheektowaga and Sloan.

The outage affected traffic lights, putting them out of service. Cheektowaga Police tried to assist with traffic movement at intersections and told drivers to treat them as four way stops during the outage.

Affected roads included Walden Ave., Broadway, Union Rd. and Harlem Rd. The Walden Galleria mall in Cheektowaga was not affected by the power outage.

Officials blamed the outage on an equipment-related issue at a substation.
