KENMORE, N.Y. (WIVB) – The Presidential election can elicit political conversation, for better or for worse. One area Chalk Artist is poking fun at this year’s race in a unique way.
Brad Kline is the resident artist at Straight Up Wine and Liquor in Kenmore. He’s been paying special attention to this years presidential election.
He said, “The jokes pretty much write themselves. Whether that’s good or bad.” He uses the political figures involved in decision 2016,to draw crowds into this locally run business. People say, they love it.
Trish Coppola, a customer, said, “All of a sudden, you’re shopping around and you get a lesson in art and chalk drawing, and you get a lesson in the politics of the day.”
The stores owners say Kline’s chalk art takes about 2 hours each. He took classes at Alright Knox as a kid, and his talent is now shown off at the store years later.
Dan Locche, Owner and “Chief Bottle Washer,” said, “We used to see notepads with all the drawings on it, and we would wonder why he wasn’t working, so then we decided to take that talent and put it to use.”
Kline said, “This kind of lets us have a fun, tongue in cheek way of representing our political figures, while still talking about the trending topics.”
Locche says much like politics, everyone has their own tastes when it comes to liquor and wine, so he’s happy to have his store as a place to discuss both. He said, “The political side has been wonderful. It’s topical, it’s humorous. We’ve kept it neutral so we don’t offend anybody. God knows you can offend a lot of people in this political climate.”
And he says this election has been actually great for business. He said, “God knows this political climate will drive you to drink.”
